I Thought That By Now

I thought that by now, I would be defending clients in a court of law,

I thought that by now, I would have a partner and some kids,

I thought that by now, I would be a homeowner,

I thought that by now, I would be financially secure,

I thought that by now, I would be completely out to my family,

I thought that by now, I would be making better decisions in life.

I thought that by now, I would have plenty of close friends to call when I needed them.

I thought that by now, I would be satisfied in all aspect of my life.

I thought wrong!

When I was in college I thought that my life would begin after I graduated and started my career. Well none of that has happened and I can only blame myself. So, to remedy this situation I am gonna just start over. I'm gonna forget all of the shit from the past and move on with the future. I'm gonna make some life decisions and stick to them. Don't know what i'm gonna do yet, but something has to be done because i'm not satisfied with life right now.

Don't worry about starting over on your plans. You will probably have 5 careers in your lifetime. I spent a year in law school before deciding it wasn't for me. The job I now have didn't even exist when I came out of college. But I am here and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Leave any baggage from the past in the past, but do take the positive experiences with you. Shem hotep.

I need to take your initiative and apply it to me. I dont believe my life will be where I want it to be when I turn 25 and I dont want to have to type one of those letters!

figure out what it is you want to do and right it down on paper...then take that paper and tape it to on the wall or bathroom mirror or refrigerator just some where you will see it everyday and make it happen. Seeing it everyday makes you work harder to make it happen. Say to yourself I am going to do this. Make it real.

i'm definitely not where i thought i would be at this point in my life. i thought i would be working in the field that i love, would be helping to shape the lives of tomorrows leaders, living in a nice two bedroom apt in a quiet neighborhood, and would be sharing my quiet time on a belcony with my life partner. But i'm not, but those dreams keep me going and keep me trying to improve myself. i guess as long as i don't reach my dreams, i will always have something to do in this world. only thing we can do in the mean time is enjoy the moments we do have.

Don't be discouraged. I think we all have thing in our lives that we feel should be different. Make another list and notate your accomplishments. That way you can see that although you are not where you want to be, at least you have accomplished some things in your life. Hell, to be a gay man still living is quite an accomplishment.
